Stone walls and adobe structures from an 1860s military outpost stand among desert hills along the Carson River in Nevada.
The fort operated from 1860 to 1869 during the Pyramid Lake War to protect settlers and maintain communication routes between Nevada and California.
The ruins demonstrate 19th-century military architecture and construction techniques adapted to the harsh conditions of the American Southwest desert environment.
