Archaeological site of Grand

The archaeological site of Grand is a Roman settlement with an amphitheater, heated baths, public buildings, and residential quarters spread across the terrain. The remains include ramparts, private homes, and various structures showing how a complete ancient city was organized.

The settlement of Andésina began in the first century and expanded into a significant Roman city with thousands of inhabitants. This growth reflects how Roman settlements took root in Gaul and developed into important centers.

The large mosaic shows a theatrical scene and still displays vivid colors across the site. You can observe how residents decorated their homes with such ornate patterns in daily life.

Wear sturdy shoes as the ground is uneven with different elevation levels throughout the site. The location is exposed and open, so bring sun protection and plan for a longer visit.

Below the surface lies an intricate network of artificial tunnels and channels that combine natural cave formations with Roman water engineering. This hidden system was essential for supplying the city with water.
