Château de Vendeuvre, 18th century castle in Vendeuvre, France

The Château de Vendeuvre is an 18th-century castle in Normandy with balanced architecture and symmetrical wings. Its classical facades open onto spacious gardens featuring geometric patterns, water features, and lush plantings.

The building was constructed between 1750 and 1752 under the direction of architect Jacques-François Blondel. Its owners remained in France during the Revolution, which allowed the structure to survive intact.

The castle houses a remarkable collection of brass items in its kitchen and an exceptional array of small-scale furnishings reflecting historical craftsmanship. These objects reveal how people lived and what they valued in their homes.

The castle is accessible from April through October and can be explored with or without a guided tour. Plan about ninety minutes for a full visit covering both the interior and gardens.

The gardens contain a grotto whose interior walls are decorated with shells. This hidden spot offers a quiet retreat and displays a rare form of garden decoration from past times.
