Porte d'Italie

The Porte d'Italie stands as one of three original gates in the fortified walls surrounding the mountain village of Breil-sur-Roya, featuring stone masonry construction.

Built between the 15th and 16th centuries on earlier foundations, this gate marked the eastern entrance to the village during the period of Genoese influence.

The gate represents the architectural heritage of medieval French-Italian border regions, reflecting the historical connections between Breil-sur-Roya and neighboring Italian territories.

Visitors can access the gate through the village center, with parking available near the tourist office and clear signage guiding the way.

The Porte d'Italie remains the only preserved gate among the original three entrances, standing alongside the Saint-Antoine l'Ermite chapel within the ancient fortification system.
