Couvent des Carmélites de Pamiers

The Carmelite Convent of Pamiers is a monastery built on a limestone hill featuring a bishop's tower with a pavilion roof and curved tiles. Its interior contains cloisters with basket-handle arcades and small structured openings.

The convent was founded in 1648 and became the 57th Carmelite establishment in France. Medieval houses were incorporated into the building during its construction.

The chapel displays artwork that reflects the spiritual life of the Carmelite sisters, including an altarpiece depicting the Transfiguration. The furnishings show the religious practices that took place within this community.

The convent is located at Place du Mercadal in Pamiers and is easy to find. The paved pathways inside and open areas make it straightforward to navigate the grounds.

The chapel was deliberately built on an embankment to follow Carmelite tradition regarding altar height and the nuns' choir position. This architectural choice shows how religious rules shaped the building's design.
