Église Saint-Thomas de Vedène, Church and classified historical monument in Vedène, France

The église Saint-Thomas de Vedène is an 18th-century parish church in the center of the town of Vedène, in the Vaucluse department of France, and is listed as a classified historical monument. Completed in 1767, it follows a Greek cross plan with four equal arms, a plain stone facade, and a small bell tower.

Construction began in 1765 on the site of an earlier church and was completed in 1767, based on plans by the architect Franque. In 1934, the building was listed as a historical monument, a status that ensures the protection of its original appearance.

The church sits at the center of Vedène and is used today for Sunday services, baptisms, and weddings by the local community. Its Greek cross floor plan, which is rare in France, is something visitors immediately notice when they step inside.

The church stands in the center of Vedène near the main street and is easy to reach on foot. Visiting outside of service times is a good idea if you want to walk through the interior without interruption.

The Greek cross plan of the building is very rare in France, with its closest parallels found in certain churches in Rome. This makes it one of the few examples of this floor plan in the country outside of major cities.
