Kearns Building, Historic office building in downtown Salt Lake City, United States.
The Kearns Building is a 10-story office building downtown at 136 South Main Street with white terracotta exterior and steel-reinforced concrete frame. Today it contains modern office spaces, a fitness center with cycling studio, shared lounges, and an outdoor terrace.
Construction took place between 1909 and 1911 under the commission of former US Senator Thomas Kearns. The building earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
The architectural style features vertical piers and decorated cornices that showcase early 20th-century American commercial design. When you look at the building, the distinctive window bands stand out immediately and shape the downtown skyline.
The building sits in the heart of downtown and is easy to reach on foot for exploring the area. Its mix of office spaces and public facilities makes it accessible to different types of visitors throughout the day.
A third of the office spaces were already leased before the building opened in 1911, including the well-known Mecca restaurant. This rapid occupancy demonstrated strong business confidence in the location and building quality.
