Council House, Government building in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The Council House stood at the intersection of Main Street and South Temple Street, featuring two floors with adobe walls and wooden elements.
Built between 1849 and 1850, the Council House served as the first public building in Utah Territory until its destruction by fire in 1883.
The building housed multiple institutions, including the University of Utah and the Deseret News, contributing to the educational and media development of the region.
The structure followed the City of Zion grid system planning, which divided urban spaces into organized blocks with designated areas for civic functions.
Before the construction of the Endowment House in 1855, thousands of members of the LDS Church received their endowments within the Council House walls.
