Temple Square, Religious complex in Salt Lake City, United States
Temple Square is a religious complex in Salt Lake City that contains the Salt Lake Temple, a historic tabernacle, and an assembly hall spread across about 10 acres. The three main buildings are connected by landscaped gardens and paved pathways that allow visitors to move freely between them.
The Salt Lake Temple construction began in 1853 and took 40 years to complete, with walls built from quartz monzonite stone blocks. The Tabernacle was finished decades earlier in the 1870s and served as the main gathering place while temple construction continued.
The Tabernacle Choir performs weekly radio broadcasts from Temple Square, connecting the music here to millions of listeners worldwide since 1929.
Visitors can explore the buildings and gardens free of charge, with guided tours available in more than 40 languages. Comfortable shoes are helpful since you will be walking across the entire site to see all areas.
The Conference Center auditorium holds more than 21,000 people and is so vast that two Boeing 747 aircraft could fit side by side inside it. This space is used for large gatherings and demonstrates the remarkable scale of the entire complex.
