Colossus the Fire Dragon, Steel roller coaster in Farmington, United States
Colossus the Fire Dragon is a steel roller coaster at a Utah amusement park featuring two vertical loops and a lift hill reaching 26 meters high. It achieves speeds around 88 kilometers per hour (55 mph) and operates with open-style trains displaying green dragon graphics and functioning headlights.
The coaster originally operated at German traveling fairs before being purchased and permanently installed at Lagoon Amusement Park in 1983. This transition from portable to fixed installation marked a significant step in the park's expansion.
The ride became a popular family attraction in the 1980s, known for its thrilling experience delivered with minimal restraint design. Visitors often remember the distinctive dragon-themed train livery that stands out among other coasters at the park.
Riders must be at least 117 centimeters (46 inches) tall, and children between 117 and 127 centimeters (46-50 inches) need supervision from an accompanying adult. It's helpful to verify specific requirements at the entrance since park policies can vary.
Unlike many modern coasters, this ride operates without over-the-shoulder harnesses, giving riders a more open and liberating feeling during the experience. The silver-white train design with green dragon decorations and illuminated headlights creates a distinctive appearance that makes it instantly recognizable.
