The Opera House, Concert venue in Queen Street East, Toronto, Canada

The Opera House at Queen Street East is a former silent-era cinema with preserved classical Edwardian architecture that now serves as a live music venue. The interior maintains its original single-screen theater layout, which provides an intimate yet spacious setting for concerts.

The building opened in 1909 as La Plaza Theatre showing vaudeville performances for a working-class neighborhood audience. It functioned as a cinema for decades before closing and later reopening as a music venue in the late 1980s.

The space has become known as a gathering place for fans of Canadian indie and rock music throughout the city. People come here not only to hear performances but also to connect with others who share similar musical interests.

The venue is located in the Riverdale neighborhood of eastern Toronto and is easily accessible by public transit. Visitors should plan to arrive early for popular shows, as seating capacity is limited and performances often sell out quickly.

The building served as a filming location for music videos by Canadian rock bands and still displays its vintage neon signage on the exterior that dates from its cinema days. This original marquee remains one of the few unchanged features from its past life as a movie theater.
