The Opera House

The Opera House at Queen Street East is a former silent-era cinema with preserved classical Edwardian architecture that now serves as a live music venue. The interior maintains its original single-screen theater layout, which provides an intimate yet spacious setting for concerts.

The building opened in 1909 as La Plaza Theatre showing vaudeville performances for a working-class neighborhood audience. It functioned as a cinema for decades before closing and later reopening as a music venue in the late 1980s.

The space has become known as a gathering place for fans of Canadian indie and rock music throughout the city. People come here not only to hear performances but also to connect with others who share similar musical interests.
