Peery's Egyptian Theater, Historic movie theater in Ogden, US.
Peery's Egyptian Theater is a historic movie theater and performance venue in downtown Ogden, Utah, built in the Egyptian Revival architectural style. Its facade and interior are both covered in Egyptian-inspired decorations, from the entrance hall through to the main auditorium.
The building opened in 1924, just two years after the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb sparked a wave of interest in Egyptian aesthetics across America. It soon became one of the best-known entertainment spots in the Ogden area.
The theater hosts concerts, live shows, and film screenings today, drawing audiences from across the region. The interior, with its lotus columns and hieroglyph-inspired patterns, gives every visit a visually unusual quality that most modern venues cannot offer.
The theater sits in central Ogden and is easy to reach on foot from most points in the downtown area. Booking in advance is a good idea, as the venue has a limited capacity and popular events tend to sell out.
The Egyptian Revival style had a very brief moment in American architecture, and only a small number of theaters built in this style during the 1920s survive today. This theater is one of the most complete examples still standing in the country, which is why it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
