Ogden, Mountain city in Weber County, Utah, United States.
Ogden is a city in Weber County, Utah, United States, sitting at 1,310 meters (4,300 feet) elevation along the eastern shore of the Great Salt Lake below the Wasatch Range. It serves as the county seat and connects urban streets with mountain trails visible from the peaks above.
The settlement began in 1846 as an outpost and grew rapidly in the following decades when railroad lines converged here, moving travelers and goods between east and west. This growth turned the place into a junction during westward expansion across the continent.
The name honors Peter Skene Ogden, a fur trapper who traveled through this region in the 1820s while working for the Hudson's Bay Company. The downtown streets still display red brick buildings that recall the era when railroad workers and pioneers gathered at this crossroads.
The downtown area sits close to three ski resorts reachable in about 20 minutes, offering winter sport options. Trails and rivers in the nearby forest are open to visitors who want to experience nature outside the urban area.
An aerospace museum outside the center displays around 100 military aircraft, including models from different decades of the 20th century. Visitors can view the machines up close and learn about their technical development.
