Ashoka Temple, Buddhist temple at Mount Taibai, Ningbo, China
The temple complex spans over 124,100 square meters, featuring multiple ceremonial halls, meditation spaces, and the ancient Sarira Pagoda at its center.
Established in 282 by monk Huida during the Western Jin dynasty, the temple received its name from Emperor Wudi in 522 as a tribute.
The temple maintains strong connections with Japanese Buddhism through visits from notable figures like Master Jianzhen, who taught Buddhist practices there in 744.
Located 16 kilometers from downtown Ningbo, the temple complex includes the Four Heavenly Kings Hall, Mahavira Hall, and numerous facilities for religious ceremonies.
The temple houses a rare five-layered Sarira Pagoda measuring 48 centimeters tall, containing Buddhist relics that display different colors depending on viewing angles.
