Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, International airport in Xiaoshan District, China
Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport is an international airport in Xiaoshan District, Zhejiang province, serving as the main hub for the eastern region. The facility includes several terminals with wide check-in halls, waiting areas with high ceilings and windows that look out onto runways.
The airport opened in December 2000 and took over operations from the older Jianqiao airfield, which had previously served both civilian and military purposes. Since then, new terminals and additional runways have been built to handle growing demand.
The name Xiaoshan refers to the district south of the city, where the terminal sits on flat land between rice paddies and industrial zones. Inside, passengers encounter tea shops and local noodle bars that show how travel and regional food culture meet here.
The best way to find your way is to follow the multilingual signs in arrival and departure areas, which guide passengers to gates and ground transport. Travelers should allow extra time for security checks, especially during peak travel periods in the region.
A rule from 2016 allows travelers from certain countries to stay for up to 144 hours without an additional visa if they are passing through the region. This policy makes short explorations around West Lake or nearby cities possible.
