The Pit is a basketball arena at the University of New Mexico where the playing floor sits about 37 feet below street level. From every seat in the venue, which holds around 15,400 people, spectators have unobstructed views of the court.
The facility opened in December 1966 as University Arena, replacing an older gym after attendance grew. It became an important home for college basketball in the region.
