Pecos National Historical Park, National Historical Park in San Miguel County, United States

The Pecos site contains ancient pueblo ruins, a Spanish colonial mission, and numerous archaeological structures spread across thousands of acres of New Mexico landscape.

The Pecos Pueblo, inhabited from 1100 to the late 1800s, developed into a settlement of 2,000 residents who built a five-story architectural complex.

The Native American inhabitants of Pecos maintained extensive trade networks, exchanging goods with Plains tribes while cultivating beans, corn, and squash.

The National Park Service maintains interpretive trails, exhibits, and educational programs throughout the site for visitors to explore the pueblo ruins.

The park preserves sections of the Santa Fe Trail, including wagon wheel marks from 19th-century merchants traveling between Missouri and New Mexico.
