Cimarron, Historic village in Colfax County, New Mexico, US.
The village stands at 1960 meters elevation against the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, along the Cimarron River and U.S. Route 64.
Established in 1859 on the Maxwell Land Grant, Cimarron served as the county seat of Colfax County from 1872 until 1881.
The St. James Hotel preserves the heritage of the American frontier, with rooms named after guests including Billy the Kid and Wyatt Earp.
The village operates on a four-day school week schedule, implemented in the 1970s to reduce energy costs during the fuel crisis.
The settlement borders Philmont Scout Ranch, the Elliott Barker State Wildlife Area, and Cimarron Canyon State Park, offering extensive outdoor activities.
