Star Valley is a mountain valley in western Wyoming that stretches between the Salt River Range and Webster Range for about 65 miles. Multiple rivers flow through the area, including the Salt River, Greys River, and Snake River, which converge near Alpine Junction and create excellent fishing waters.
Mormon pioneers established permanent settlements here in the late 1870s, building on land that had previously served as seasonal hunting grounds for the Shoshone people. This settlement marked the start of agricultural development that continues to define the region.
Ranching families have shaped the landscape for generations, and cattle still graze across the open meadows as part of daily life here. The community also embraces skiing, hiking, and fishing as natural extensions of living in this mountain setting.

Near Afton stands the Intermittent Spring, a rare geological formation that releases water in regular 18-minute cycles, making it one of only three such springs in the world. Visitors often find the rhythmic flow of this natural phenomenon both puzzling and rewarding to observe.
