Salt Works Ranch, Historic ranch in Park County, United States
Salt Works Ranch is a historic property in Park County with more than 400 acres of irrigated hay meadow and water rights from Salt Creek. The main house was built in 1872 in Second Empire style and is surrounded by seventeen buildings, two structures, and multiple log cabins.
The property was founded in 1862 near Hartsel and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. The recognition honored its importance to the region's agricultural and architectural development.
The buildings on the property show how ranching and farming were practiced in this region during the 1800s. The different structures tell the story of daily life and work on a mountain ranch.
Visits require advance arrangements with the property owners, as the property is not permanently open to the public. It is best to contact ahead to arrange a tour and access to the buildings.
The property is shaped by natural saline springs that gave it its name and led to protection through a conservation easement. This agreement with Colorado Cattlemen's Agricultural Land Trust protects more than 550 acres of land for future generations.
