Vasquez Peak Wilderness

Vasquez Peak Wilderness is a protected area in the Rocky Mountains that contains open alpine meadows, thick forests, and peaks above 13,000 feet. The terrain shifts between exposed ridges and sheltered valleys filled with trees.

Congress protected this land in 1993 as part of a broader effort to set aside natural areas across the country. This designation came during a time when many wild lands received legal protection from development.
