Granby, Mountain town in Grand County, Colorado, United States
Granby is a town in Grand County in the state of Colorado, located at 2,428 meters (7,963 feet) elevation in the Fraser River valley. The surroundings show open meadows and forested slopes, while the river flows through the valley floor.
The railway line reached the area in 1904 and gave rise to the founding of the settlement. The name honors a Denver lawyer who was involved in financing the rail route.
The settlement began with ranchers who used the valley for grazing livestock. Wooden fences and ranch buildings still shape the appearance of the town on the edge of the center.
The train station is centrally located and offers connections to larger cities along the route. A small regional airport sits at the edge of town for charter flights and private planes.
The valley receives over 3.25 meters (128 inches) of snow each year, which strongly influences daily life in winter. This snowfall ensures that plows and winter equipment are part of the regular street scene.
