Alpine Visitor Center

The Alpine Visitor Center sits at Fall River Pass and features exhibits exploring the tundra ecosystem and alpine environment. The facility includes restrooms and a gift shop operated by the Rocky Mountain Conservancy.

The center opened in 1964 to provide visitors with information and resources for exploring the high mountain environment. Its creation reflected growing efforts to serve visitors at high-elevation locations within the park.

The center serves as a stamp collection point for travelers documenting their National Park visits in official passport booklets. Many visitors make it a tradition to gather stamps from different park facilities across the country.

The center operates from late May through mid-October, with hours from 9 AM to 5 PM adjusted for seasonal weather. Visitors should prepare for the high elevation and understand that operations may close unexpectedly due to mountain weather conditions.

This facility stands at roughly 3,600 meters elevation, making it the highest visitor center in the entire US National Park System. The extreme altitude makes it a distinctive destination for those wanting to experience high-alpine conditions firsthand.
