Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station, Military base in Colorado Springs, United States

This military facility is built deep inside a mountain, roughly 2,000 feet (610 meters) underground, protected by thick granite walls that shield it from natural disasters and attacks while maintaining a calm, hidden presence in the rugged Colorado landscape.

The station was constructed during the Cold War in the early 1960s as a secure command post designed to survive nuclear strikes, with buildings mounted on massive springs to absorb shockwaves and protect the personnel and equipment inside from devastating impacts.

The facility represents decades of national defense efforts and symbolizes resilience during times of tension, serving as a quiet guardian that watches over the skies and space while blending into the peaceful mountain surroundings of Colorado Springs.

The complex includes offices, control rooms, medical facilities, a cafeteria, a fitness center, and even outdoor recreation areas like basketball and volleyball courts, creating a self-contained community where personnel can work and relax in a secure environment.

It remains the only high-altitude Department of Defense facility capable of withstanding an electromagnetic pulse, ensuring that critical space and missile defense operations can continue even during the most serious technological disruptions or attacks on communication systems.
