The community takes its name from John D. Henderson, an early settler from the 1860s whose legacy shapes local identity today. Henderson Community Church, standing for over 100 years, is one of the few original buildings that shows how residents have kept their history alive.
Henderson sits about 10 miles (16 kilometers) from Denver at an elevation over 5,000 feet (1,524 meters), making it a convenient base for exploring different parts of Colorado. The community is easy to reach via Brighton Road and lies close to several parks and outdoor activities.
The area was historically an important stop for gold seekers heading to the Rocky Mountains, as residents supplied meat and goods to miners in gold camps. This early connection to the gold and ranching business fundamentally shaped the regional economy.
