Francis E. Warren Air Force Base

Francis E. Warren Air Force Base is a military installation near Cheyenne at an elevation of 1878 meters (6161 feet). The grounds span roughly 12.9 square kilometers (5 square miles) and contain administrative buildings, residential areas, and secured zones for operational facilities.

The fort was founded in 1867 as an infantry post to protect settlers and railroad workers in Wyoming. After several renaming events, the site transformed in the 20th century into a center for overseeing strategic missiles.

The military installation honors a Wyoming senator who started his career as a volunteer in an American regiment. Outside the gate stand monuments and memorial stones that pay tribute to generations of crews and their families, recalling shared missions across different eras.

All visitors must present valid identification documents and meet entry criteria that may vary depending on the purpose of the visit. Staff at the main gate will ask questions about the destination and duration of the stay before granting or denying access.

A museum on the installation allows visitors to view historic uniforms and equipment dating back to the cavalry era after prior arrangement. The unit also operates training facilities for crews working with missile systems, giving the site a distinct operational role.
