Middleton, city in Canyon County, Idaho, United States

Middleton is a small city in Canyon County, Idaho, located near the Boise River and radiating a quiet, friendly feel. The city is growing quickly, but many areas still have a rural look with clean streets and well-maintained houses mixed with farmland and open spaces.

Middleton was named for its location between Fort Boise and Keeney's Ferry and served as a resting place for Oregon Trail travelers with a stage station. After facing several hardships, including a major flood in 1872 that changed the river's course and forced the town to relocate, it was officially incorporated as a city in 1910.

The name Middleton comes from its location between two historical sites: Fort Boise and Keeney's Ferry. Residents gather regularly at local events in parks and community centers, where neighbors know each other and support one another.

The city is easily accessible via State Highway 44 and sits near Interstate 84, offering quick connections to larger cities like Boise. The flat, open layout of the town makes navigating on foot or by bicycle simple, with parks and green spaces scattered throughout the city.

The town was relocated to a new site after a severe flood in 1872 changed the river's course. This unusual history of relocation shows the resilience of early settlers and makes Middleton a rare example of a city that had to be literally rebuilt.
