John A. Finch Arboretum, Botanical garden in West Hills, Spokane, United States
John A. Finch Arboretum is a botanical garden in Spokane with more than 2,000 trees and shrubs spread across 56 acres. The vegetation extends along a small creek and creates different planted areas to explore.
The land was acquired in 1912 by two individuals whose names are commemorated in the location, setting the foundation for what exists today. Shortly after, early planting work began under the direction of the park superintendent.
The arboretum functions as a place where visitors walk past labeled plant collections and discover the range of species on their own. The paths move through different areas that show how trees and shrubs vary in appearance and growth.
The grounds are open daily and free to enter, making it easy for spontaneous visits. Public transit from Spokane reaches the location, so you can arrive by bus.
A special nature trail with braille signs and a guide rope lets people with visual impairments experience plants through touch. This area demonstrates that the place can welcome all visitors.
