Moyie Falls, Two-tiered waterfall in Boundary County, Idaho
Moyie Falls is a two-tiered waterfall system along the Moyie River in Idaho's Boundary County with distinct upper and lower sections. The upper drop measures approximately 55 feet (17 meters) while the lower cascade extends about 30 feet (9 meters) down the river channel.
The falls developed over thousands of years as flowing water eroded through bedrock along the river corridor. This natural carving process shaped the deep canyon now visible in the Moyie River valley.
The falls serve as a local gathering point where people come to experience the river's natural power and enjoy outdoor recreation in northern Idaho. Visitors and residents alike return here to connect with the flowing water and surrounding landscape.
A designated parking area provides easy access, and a short walking path leads to a viewpoint overlooking both sections of the falls. The flow of water is strongest during times of high water, so consider visiting when seasonal runoff is greatest.
The water volume changes dramatically based on operations at a nearby hydroelectric facility that diverts flow for power generation. During certain periods the upper section can nearly dry up completely when water is diverted for these operations.
