Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge, National Wildlife Refuge in northern Idaho, United States

The refuge spans 2,774 acres near the Selkirk Mountains and contains wetlands, meadows, riparian forests, and agricultural fields for wildlife sustenance.

The United States Fish and Wildlife Service established this protected zone in 1964 to create a sanctuary for migratory waterfowl populations.

The Idaho Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest takes place at the refuge, encouraging young artists to learn about wildlife conservation through art.

Visitors can explore the area through a 4.5-mile auto tour route, four marked hiking trails, and a dedicated visitor center.

The refuge supports more than 220 bird species, 45 mammal species, and 22 fish species across its diverse ecological environments.
