Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park, Provincial park in The Slocan Valley, Canada

Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park is a large protected area in the Selkirk Mountains with three major glaciers and many high-altitude lakes. The landscape features steep valleys, snow-covered peaks, and cold alpine waters fed by glacier melt.

The area became one of British Columbia's first protected parks in 1922. This early designation followed decades when mining and logging activity had shaped the region.

The park holds deep significance for those drawn to remote mountain landscapes and glacier-fed wilderness. Visitors can still walk along historic mining routes that shaped how people have moved through and worked in these mountains.

The high-elevation terrain demands proper preparation and sturdy gear, as weather and conditions remain extreme throughout the year. Visitors should bring waterproof tents, reliable camp stoves, and warm clothing, since temperature drops can happen suddenly.

The granite formations in the park come from a massive underground rock layer that solidified millions of years ago. This deep geological structure has shaped the mountains over time and gives the range its distinctive character.
