Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park

The park spans 320 square kilometers across the Selkirk Mountains, featuring three major glaciers that feed thirty alpine lakes and numerous creeks.

Established in 1922 as one of British Columbia's earliest provincial parks, the area developed from former mining and forestry roads in the West Kootenays region.

The park represents the ecological heritage of the Selkirk Mountain ranges while preserving the alpine mining history of the West Kootenays region.

Visitors require proper equipment including waterproof tents and outdoor stoves, as the high elevation park experiences severe weather conditions throughout all seasons.

The granite formations within the park originated from the Nelson batholith, where mineralized solutions under pressure created distinctive patterns in the rock mass.
