Mount Helen

Mount Helen is a summit in the Wind River Range rising to 13,620 feet (4,151 meters) in the Bridger Wilderness. The peak displays extensive snowfields and hosts Helen Glacier on its eastern slopes.

The first documented ascent occurred in 1924 when climbers reached the summit under challenging conditions. Long before this modern climb, the Wind River Range held importance for those traveling through these remote terrain.

The Wind River Range mountains hold traditional importance for Native American tribes who maintained connections with these lands through generations of seasonal migrations.

Climbers typically start at Elkhart Park Trailhead and follow established routes through Bridger-Teton National Forest toward the peak. The terrain demands experience with high-altitude conditions and snow travel in this region.

Tower Ridge offers technical climbing challenges featuring rock spires composed of migmatite-banded gneiss. This geological feature creates one of the most difficult approaches in this mountain range.
