Bunsen Peak, Mountain summit in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, US.
Located at an elevation of 8,564 feet, Bunsen Peak rises prominently above Mammoth Hot Springs, featuring steep slopes and exposed rock formations.
Ferdinand Hayden and Captain John Barlow completed the first recorded ascent of the mountain in 1871, leading to its scientific documentation.
The peak received its name in 1872 to honor German chemist Robert Bunsen, who contributed significantly to the understanding of volcanic geysers.
The summit trail begins south of Mammoth and extends 2.1 miles upward through varying terrain, requiring moderate hiking experience and proper equipment.
Classified as a cinder cone within the Gallatin Range, the mountain provides unobstructed views of Gardner River valley and neighboring Mount Everts.
