Clagett Butte, Mountain summit in Yellowstone National Park, US.
Clagett Butte is a mountain summit in the Gallatin Range within Yellowstone National Park, rising between Clematis Creek and Snow Pass. The peak sits within rocky terrain that connects several major hiking routes across the park's backcountry.
The summit was named in 1926 to honor William H. Clagett's contributions to the founding of Yellowstone National Park. Park photographer Jack Ellis Haynes and superintendent Horace Albright led this naming decision.
The mountain carried three different names before 1926: Temple Mountain in 1885, Sentinel Butte in 1887, and Signal Butte in 1897.
The trail to this summit is relatively short and moderately graded, making it accessible for visitors with varied hiking abilities. Clear path markers and connections to other trails help with navigation through the backcountry.
This geological formation stands 1.9 miles west of Mammoth Hot Springs and features power lines along its trail system at coordinates 44°57′52″N 110°44′06″W.
