CFD Alsask, Military radar station in Saskatchewan, Canada.
CFD Alsask is a military installation in Saskatchewan's prairie with three radar domes, residential buildings, a school facility, and a swimming pool. The structures spread across agricultural land, forming a self-contained complex.
The installation was founded in 1963 as part of the Pinetree Line network to monitor North American airspace for Soviet threats. It served an air defence role during Cold War operations.
The location was home to a close community of military personnel and civilians who shared daily spaces and gathered regularly. The isolated prairie setting shaped everyday life and created a distinct bond among residents.
The site is managed by the Canadian Civil Defence Museum and offers guided tours to visitors. It is best to check ahead as access and tour availability may be limited.
The radar dome received heritage status in 2002 and preserves multiple operational levels with separate areas for command operations and signal processing. The different functional areas show how complex surveillance systems were organized at the time.
