Elbow crater, Impact crater in Saskatchewan, Canada.

Elbow Crater is a circular depression located north of Riverhurst village in Saskatchewan. The feature lies beneath the surface but has been identified through geological surveys that reveal fractured rock layers underneath.

The crater formed approximately 395 million years ago during the Devonian Period when a large meteorite struck the Earth's surface. Subsequent geological events, including a later uplift phase, further shaped the buried structure.

Scientific studies at this location contribute to North American geological research, joining a network of 60 confirmed impact structures across the continent.

The site is located near Lake Diefenbaker in a remote area that is normally not directly accessible for casual visits. Geological study requires specialized equipment and professional guidance to examine the subsurface features safely.

Beneath the surface, seismic surveys reveal two separate phases of geological change that occurred at different times. These multiple reshaping events make this crater a rare example of complex impact processes.
