Edmonton International Raceway, auto racing facility
Edmonton International Raceway is a motorsport racing track located in County of Wetaskiwin No. 10, roughly 50 kilometers south of Edmonton. The facility features a paved track about a quarter-mile long with oval and turn sections designed to provide varied racing action that spectators can follow from different vantage points.
The raceway opened in 1967 with a dirt surface that hosted various local racing events. The track was later converted to asphalt, which increased racing speeds and attracted larger competitions, including NASCAR series races that began in 2014.
The raceway takes its name from its proximity to Edmonton and its role as a racing destination. It serves as a gathering place for motorsport fans from the region who share a passion for speed and competition in a location that has been woven into local community life for decades.
The track is located in a rural area south of Edmonton, so arriving by car is the best way to visit. Plan to arrive early on race days to secure good viewing spots and take full advantage of the day's events.
The track was the first in Alberta to receive official NASCAR approval and remains the only venue in the province to host a NASCAR series race. This distinction places it in a special position within Canada's motorsport landscape despite its compact size.
