Remai Modern, Art museum in downtown Saskatoon, Canada
Remai Modern is an art museum in Saskatoon featuring curved copper mesh structures that rise above the South Saskatchewan River. Inside, the spaces contain galleries, a 150-seat theatre, creative studios, dining, and a shop selling art books and gifts.
The museum opened in 2017 and replaced the earlier Mendel Art Gallery that had served the city. A significant donation made the creation of this new institution possible.
The name honors a major donor who transformed Saskatoon's art scene with her gift. Visitors come here to see contemporary works and experience how art connects to the river and the city around it.
The building sits right on the riverbank and is easily walkable from downtown. The different areas are openly accessible, so visitors can spend as much or as little time as they want and choose which spaces to explore.
The museum holds the largest collection of Picasso's linocuts and ceramic works across all of North America. This extraordinary collection came from the same benefactor who made the museum itself possible.
