Peter MacKinnon Building
Peter MacKinnon Building, National historic site at University of Saskatchewan, Canada
The Peter MacKinnon Building is a university structure at the University of Saskatchewan distinguished by its stone exterior with vertical lines, symmetrical proportions, and decorative details in the Collegiate Gothic style. It houses administrative offices, art galleries, and museum spaces that serve the university community.
Built between 1910 and 1912, this structure marked the founding of the first College of Agriculture within a Canadian university system. This development was a significant milestone for agricultural education in western Canada.
The Convocation Hall serves as the setting for academic ceremonies, concerts, and gatherings that mark the rhythm of university life. Visitors can observe how the space shapes these events and the sense of occasion they create throughout the year.
The building is positioned at the heart of campus and is easily accessible on foot. Some areas may be restricted during university events, so it is helpful to check ahead before visiting.
The structure stands at the head of an oval green space called The Bowl, part of one of Canada's finest collections of Collegiate Gothic buildings. The spatial arrangement was purposefully designed to create this architectural grouping.
