Prowers County

Prowers County is an administrative area in southeastern Colorado with flat to rolling terrain and vast agricultural lands. The region is defined by corn and wheat farming that covers most of the landscape.

The area was established in 1889 and named after John Wesley Prowers, an early settler who built significant cattle ranching operations in the Arkansas Valley. The ranching economy shaped the region's early development.

The Granada Relocation Center National Historic District and the Santa Fe National Historic Trail tell stories of people who moved through and settled this land. These sites reflect how the region developed through migration and community building.

A location here has a rare geographic property where its antipodal point falls in the Indian Ocean. This makes it one of the few continental U.S. spots with such an unusual connection to the opposite side of Earth.
