Lake Stanley Draper, reservoir near Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Lake Stanley Draper is a large reservoir located southeast of Oklahoma City with wooded areas and open water. The lake is surrounded by parks, paved trails, piers, boat ramps, and recreational facilities that support fishing, boating, and cycling activities.
The reservoir was built in the early 1960s to store water and support Oklahoma City's growth while helping prevent flooding. Over the decades, it developed into a major recreational destination with expanded trails and facilities.
The lake is named after Stanley Draper, a local leader. It serves as a gathering place where residents escape city life and connect with nature through outdoor activities and quiet reflection.
Access is easy by car via Stanley Draper Drive with parking available near main areas. Keep in mind that swimming is not permitted, but fishing, boating, and water skiing are allowed with appropriate permits required for most water activities.
This is the only reservoir in Oklahoma City where water skiing is permitted. The shoreline also features rose rocks, Oklahoma's state rock with petal-like red shapes, which can be found without digging along the banks, especially near points 10 through 12.
