Bellcow Lake, lake in United States of America
Bellcow Lake is a large reservoir in Chandler, Oklahoma, covering more than 1,000 acres with a shoreline stretching over 13 miles. Built by damming Bell Cow Creek, the lake reaches depths of nearly 40 feet (12 meters) in some areas.
The lake was constructed in 1990 by the city of Chandler and opened for fishing in 1993. It was built to control flooding and ensure a reliable water supply for the town.
The lake takes its name from Bell Cow Creek, the waterway through which water flows in and out. Locals regularly use the area for fishing, picnicking, and boating as part of a shared community tradition.
The lake has four recreation areas with picnic tables, pavilions, and restrooms, along with two boat ramps, a covered fishing dock, and camping spots with full hookups. The area is accessible for people with disabilities, and nearby shops sell fishing supplies and gear.
The lake is known for its largemouth bass population, with authorities enforcing strict rules to protect large, breeding-size fish. Researchers have also surveyed the area and found rare species like the Plains spotted skunk in nearby forests.
