Bacunayagua Bridge

Bacunayagua Bridge, Concrete bridge over Yumuri Valley, Cuba.

The Bacunayagua Bridge is a concrete structure that rises roughly 110 meters above the Yumuri Valley, connecting the provinces of Mayabeque and Matanzas. The bridge spans about 313 meters across a deep canyon with a substantial central section that demonstrates significant engineering.

Construction of the bridge began in 1957 under the design of architect Luis Saenz Duplace. The completed structure was inaugurated in 1959 following the revolution.

The bridge serves as a recognizable landmark on the journey between Havana and Varadero, marking a significant crossing for travelers heading to the coast. Its presence shapes how people experience the connection between these regions.

The western side of the bridge has a stopping area where visitors can step out and view the valley below. This spot works well for a brief pause during travel to appreciate the surroundings.

The bridge features a central span of approximately 114 meters, making it one of Cuba's longest and highest bridge structures. This technical achievement represented a major engineering milestone when it was completed.
