Sanyang Beach, Public beach in West Coast Division, Gambia
Sanyang Beach is a public beach along the West Coast Division of Gambia with a 4.8-kilometer curved coastline. The area consists of three connected sections called Pelican Beach, Osprey Beach, and Paradise Beach, where white sand meets the Atlantic waters.
The area developed near Sanyang Village, founded in 1918 by the Mandinka Bojang family. This coastal location became significant for fishing and farming communities over time.
The Sanyang International Cultural Festival in January brings together local musicians, dancers, and food vendors while supporting educational programs in the village. Visitors can experience traditional music and local cuisine in a festive setting that connects the community.
Visitors can reach the beach by taking public transport from Brusubi Turn Table to Tanji, followed by a local taxi ride to the main beach area. The best access is during the dry season when roads are in better condition.
The Rainbow Beach Resort hosts traditional Gambian wrestling tournaments every Sunday with spectators watching matches on the sand near the water. This local sporting event brings visitors together with an overlooked tradition.
