Kachikally Museum and Crocodile Pool, Sacred crocodile pool and ethnographic museum in Bakau, Gambia.

The nine-acre complex contains a sacred pool with 80 Nile crocodiles, an ethnographic museum housed in four round huts, and a nature trail.

The pool's history spans over 520 years, originating when the Mandinka Bojang family received custodianship after rescuing a child from a well.

The pool functions as a ceremonial site where individuals participate in fertility rituals and seek blessings through traditional washing ceremonies.

The museum displays 1000 artifacts representing Gambian ethnic groups, while the pool's crocodiles receive feedings of bonga shad twice weekly.

Visitors can approach and touch the resident crocodiles, which move freely within the facility under the supervision of local guides.
