HMS Valkyrie, Naval training facility in Douglas, Isle of Man

HMS Valkyrie operated as a naval shore establishment on Douglas Head, featuring multiple training areas and specialized equipment for radar instruction.

The Royal Navy commissioned HMS Valkyrie in October 1941 as the No. 1 Radar Training School, investing substantial resources in technical equipment.

The establishment brought together naval personnel from different nations, including 400 French sailors who trained under Lieutenant Jean Colin.

The facility trained over 30,000 naval ratings through six-month courses, utilizing converted local buildings to accommodate the large number of students.

HMS Valkyrie collaborated with a Sea Hurricane from 772 Squadron to conduct simulated attack scenarios for radar training exercises.
