Gänglesee, Mountain lake in Liechtenstein
Gänglesee is a mountain lake in the Liechtenstein Alps sitting at 1,301 meters, ringed by peaks and natural alpine vegetation. Along the shoreline you'll find barbecue stations and picnic areas, with swimming spots available during warmer months.
A road built in 1867 near the lake opened up the Samina Valley to easier travel, replacing the narrow mule tracks that had been used before. This change transformed how people and goods could reach and move through the region.
Local fishing traditions are still active on these waters, with visitors able to observe or participate in catch methods passed down through generations. Day permits from regional fishing clubs offer visitors a chance to engage directly with the landscape and its resources.
The lake is most easily accessible during warmer months when hiking trails are open and swimming spots are available. Bring your own food for picnicking and use the barbecue areas responsibly.
The Valünerbach river flows through the lake, creating a natural water system that supports rare alpine fish species found only in certain Alpine waters. These freshwater conditions make the lake an important habitat for specialized mountain fish.
