Schleierfall, Natural waterfall in Going, Austria
Schleierfall is a waterfall in Going in the Kaiser Mountains that plunges over 60 meters and forms two separate cascades of falling water. The water drops down a steep rock wall that is surrounded by lush vegetation.
In the 1980s, climber Alexander Huber established different routes on the rock wall and transformed this into an international climbing destination. This development changed the waterfall from a local natural sight into a well-known destination for mountaineers.
The name refers to how water flows down the rock face in delicate patterns that resemble a flowing white veil. This poetic name perfectly captures what you see when water tumbles over the edge.
You can reach the waterfall using two hiking paths: the Schleierfall Round Tour starting from Going's bathing lake or the Tauernblick Panorama Path. Both routes offer good viewpoints and are manageable with standard hiking gear.
The site has more than 150 established climbing routes on the rock faces, making it a draw for climbers from around the world. Professional athletes come here to test their skills on especially demanding sections.
