Imperial Sword, Ceremonial sword in Hofburg Palace, Austria
The Imperial Sword measures 110 centimeters in length and features a steel blade with silver wire wrapping and gilt decorations along its surface.
Created for Emperor Otto IV around 1198, this sword became part of the Imperial Regalia used during coronation ceremonies of Holy Roman emperors.
The sword's scabbard displays fourteen gold-plated figures representing German monarchs from Charlemagne to Henry III on both sides of its surface.
The Imperial Sword remains on display in the Imperial Treasury at the Hofburg Palace, accessible through regular museum visiting hours.
Latin inscriptions on the sword's cross-guard read CHRISTVS VINCIT CHRISTVS REIGNAT CHRISTVS INPERAT, declaring Christ's authority over secular power.
