Lermoos

Lermoos is a mountain municipality in the Reutte district of Tyrol, situated at about 1,000 meters elevation with several neighborhoods spread across the valley. The village sits in a green alpine setting positioned between major passes and serves as a base for skiing, hiking, and other outdoor activities.

The first written mention of Lermoos dates to the 11th century, when the settlement began to grow along important trade routes like the Via Claudia Augusta. Its position between mountain passes made the area a crossroads for commerce and travel for hundreds of years.

The baroque Parish Church of St. Katharina shapes the village center and reflects how Catholic traditions have long influenced daily life here. Walking through the streets, you can see how these religious roots remain part of the community's identity and local gatherings.

The area offers good conditions for hiking in summer and skiing in winter, with several slopes and trails nearby to suit different skill levels. Routes are well marked, making it easy to choose a path based on your available time and fitness level.

In winter you can ride the longest natural sledge run in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena, which winds through the mountain slopes and attracts visitors looking for that thrill. This pathway curves down the mountainside over a considerable distance through the alpine terrain.
